May 15, 2006 International CO Day Action Reportback
Oakland , CA

On May 15th CCCO and Courage to Resist led a multicultural, intergenerational group of 100 youth and anti-war activist in a lively rally, march and demonstration. CCCO and Courage to Resist had partnered to commenorate International CO Day in Oakland,CA. Participants marched down Broadway under a gigantic Peace Dove and upon reaching the Oakland Military Recruitment Station activist quickly pasted anti-war and counter recruitment messsages over windows and doors, and locked arms to shut the station down (they had closed after receiving word of the demonstration). In an unprecedented move, activist then set up CO recruiting tables, signing up youth as conscientious objectors and taking their photos at the event for placement in their CO file, effectively transforming the military's recruitment station into a Peace and Justice CO Recruitment Center! Below are some pictures from the event. Other organizations who participated in the event included: Act Against Torture, Grandmothers Against the War, CODEPINK, International Capoeira Angola Foundation Oakland, Not Your Soldier, and HeadsUP Collective.
