Caridad De La Luz a.k.a. La Bruja is a multi-talented performance poet born and raised in the Bronx. Her work has been shared in Europe, the Caribbean and the United States. Director Spike Lee gave her a speaking role in his film Bamboozled. She danced salsa/flamenco in Vanessa Williams and Chayannes music video for Dance With Me. LA BRUJA Performing "Boogie Rican" at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe 1999. Boogie Rican is her one-woman show that takes you from the streets of the Boogie Down Bronx to the mountains of Puerto Rico blending characters, poetry, slide photography, original hip-hop and Caribbean music. It debuted in the Nuyorican Poets Café NYC and toured from San Francisco to Switzerland. October 2001 Boogie Rican celebrated its first run Off-Broadway at The Producers Club. She has blessed the pages of Shout, Vibe, Source, XXL, BLU, AWOL, Italys Aelle, Urban and Stress Magazines, Puerto Ricos newspaper El Vocero and In The House Magazine, her work was also published in El Centro journal for Hunter College NYC. Her theater performances include musical Ubu Enchained which toured in Poland and NYC, Pedro Pietris El Spanglish Language Sandwich, and Hip-Hop festival Women Like This held in Switzerland. La Bruja teaches a workshop called "How can I change the World?" for The East Harlem Tutorial Program shedding light on the benefits of expression, reading, writing, and critically examining the world in order to create positive change.
